Andropause is to men what menopause is to women...

We know that women experience a decline in hormone levels during their middle ages. We never wanted to believe that it occurs to men as well. For women it is an explosive decline in hormones; for men it is a different experience. Male symptoms sneak in the door with stealth and suck out ambition, sex drive and host of minor symptoms which we just write off as being "burnt out" or depression. Men feel that as long as they can function sexually that everything is ok and put off going to the doctor. Because andropause happens to men over a ten to twelve year period, they usually chalk it up to natural aging.

The first sign that a mans hormone level is dropping off is a subtle loss of energy and strength. There is also a depressive change in personality noticed by the wife and friends. Men enter a gray zone, a time they neither understand or wish to talk about.

When there is less testosterone available in the body to do its work, the testosterone target organ response decreases bringing about many changes.

There is great variability in testosterone levels on healthy men so not everyone will experience the same changes to the same extent. Some typical responses to low testosterone levels include:

        - Low libido
        - Emotional, psychological and behavioral changes
        - Loss of muscle strength
        - Increased upper and central body fat
        - Back Pain
        - Loss of Energy
        - Poor Memory
        - Change in visual acuity
        - Leg Cramps
        - Changes in hair growth and skin quality
