May is National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month. Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. Osteoporosis can go undetected until a bone breaks usually in the hip, spine, back, and wrist.
Who’s at risk?
· Women are four times more likely to develop the disease than men.
· Anyone over the age of 50 years old
· Anyone who is thin or has a small frame
· Anyone who has had a low lifetime calcium intake
What can you do to prevent Osteoporosis?
· Eat a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D
· Live a healthy lifestyle with no smoking or excessive alcohol intake
· Talk to your doctor about bone health
· Have your bone density tested

Medicare Part D Prescription Plans continues:
o Medicaid coverage of prescriptions for those with Medicare and Medicaid ended December 31, 2005. These people will be automatically enrolled in a Medicare Part D plan.
o Medicare Part D is coverage for your prescriptions only.
o Began January 1, 2005
o You must enroll by May 15, 2006 so not to incur a 1% penalty on your monthly premium.
o Call and ask to speak to a pharmacist at Healthwise Pharmacy, we will try to answer all your questions about Medicare Part D.
